Ordering repeat prescriptions
The easiest ways to order repeat prescriptions are:
- using your NHS account (through the NHS website or in the NHS App)
- via a designated chemist
These accounts show you all your repeat medicine and dosage and you can choose the ones you need.
You can also:
- bring (or post) the paper form to the surgery, Monday to Friday from 8.30am to 6.30pm
- complete a paper request form in the surgery, Monday to Friday from 8.30am to 6.30pm
We do not take repeat prescription requests over the phone or email.
Collecting your prescription
You can usually collect your prescription from the pharmacy 2 working days after you have ordered it.
Prescriptions can be collected from the surgery during working hours or from a designated chemist by arrangement. We can post your prescription to you, if you provide a stamped address envelope, but please allow one week for this.
You will need to choose a pharmacy to collect your prescription from. We call this nominating a pharmacy.
Electronic Prescription Service (EPS)
You can change your nominated pharmacy at any time:
- on the app or website where you order repeat prescriptions
- at your GP practice
- at any pharmacy that accepts repeat prescriptions
Questions about your prescription
If you have questions about your medicine, your local pharmacists can answer these. They can also answer questions on medicines you can buy without a prescription.
The NHS website has information on how your medicine works, how and when to take it, possible side effects and answers to your common questions.
If you would like to speak to someone at the GP surgery about your prescription:

HRT Pre-Payment Certificate
The HRT PPC will be available to buy in one single payment online at www.nhsbsa.nhs.uk/hrt-ppc, or in-person at some pharmacies. You can call 0300 330 2089 for help and support.
Before buying an HRT PPC, you should check if:
– you’re eligible for free NHS prescriptions using the eligibility checker: www.nhsbsa.nhs.uk/check
– your medicine is covered by the HRT PPC. For a list of eligible HRT medication, visit: www.nhsbsa.nhs.uk/hrt-ppc-medicines
– a 3 or 12 month PPC is more suitable. It covers all NHS prescriptions, not just HRT items.
Visit: www.nhsbsa.nhs.uk/ppc.
What to do with old medicines
Take it to the pharmacy you got it from or bring it in to the surgery. Do not put it in your household bin or flush it down the toilet.
Think Pharmacy First
What is Pharmacy First?
Patients can now see a pharmacist first and do not need a GP appointment or a prescription to get advice and treatment for certain conditions.
It’s easy, you can just walk in!
You may also be referred by an NHS provider, like NHS 111, or your GP practice.
- Treatment may be an over-the-counter medicine or prescription medication, depending on the clinical needs of the patient.
- No appointment is needed.
- Private consultation rooms are available for confidential discussions.
- Please note: If you have prolonged or recurrent symptoms or skin discolouration, or are pregnant or breastfeeding, then you will need to contact your GP surgery.
